Profiles
Profiles are created and used to provide targeted information about library materials to customers.
Library-at-home - profiles
Profiles for library-at-home users are defined in the Library-at-home - profiles table. For more information about using the library-at-home service in the staff client, see Library-at-home service.
Add a library-at-home profile
To create a new profile:
- In the Wise configuration manager, go to OCLC Wise > Catalog > Products > Profiles > Library at home - profiles. Any profiles that have already been created will display on the screen.
- Click New. The Profiles window opens.
- Enter profile information:
Field Description Profile Type Automatically populated by the system - BAHSTD Profile Number of the profile. Enter a 3-digit code. Name The description as it displays in the staff client. Type Automatically populated by the system, P - Profile Order The order in which the profiles display in the staff client. Enter a number value. Please do not use this yet Check this box if the profile is not currently in use, for example, if it is still being created. Show only in webcat (no subscription) If checked, this field is view only. Only for these networks Not used for these profiles. Leave empty. Not for these networks Not used for these profiles. Leave empty. Selection period Maximum age of the material, in months. - Click OK to save.
Delete a library-at-home profile
To delete a library-at-home profile:
- In the Wise configuration manager, go to Catalog > Products > Profiles > Library-at-home - profiles.
- Click Detail next to the profile you want to remove. The Profiles window opens.
- Select Remove and click OK. A confirmation message appears.
- Click OK. The profile is removed.
Edit a library-at-home profile
To edit a library-at-home profile:
- In the Wise configuration manager, go to Catalog > Products > Profiles > Library-at-home - profiles.
- Click Detail next to the profile you want to edit. The Profiles window opens.
- Select Change and make desired changes.
- Click OK to save the changes.
Add profile elements to a library-at-home profile
Once a library-at-home profile is created, you must provide the elements (criteria) for the profile.
To add profile elements:
- In the Wise configuration manager, go to OCLC Wise > Catalog > Products > Profiles > Library at home - profiles.
- Click Open next to the profile to which you want to add elements. The Profile elements window opens.
- Click New to add a new profile element. The Profile elements window opens.
- Enter the element information:
Field Description Profile Automatically populated by the system. Sequence number Enter a sequence number for the element here, starting with 0. This is used to organize the selected elements. Category Select a Category from the drop-down list.
Fixed title headings are defined in Titles and SCAT management > Titles > Categories. You can use its contents for genres and mediums. Other information is located in the Titles and SCAT management > Titles > System tables.
Operator Select the operator to define the element from the drop-down list:
- 01 - Equal to
- 02 - Not equal to
- 03 - Begins with
- 04 - Does not begin with
- 10 - At most
- 11 - At least
Values Manually enter the value related to the selected category. Click Add to include the value in the list. Multiple values can be added to a list as long as the selections do not conflict with each other. For example, if T52 - Adult is selected, do not add J (Juvenile) as a value.
Multiple values can be added at once, using the pipe separator (|).
Note: The difference between "value" and "description of the value" is an important distinction. You can find the genre code table and other placement tables at Titles and SCAT management > SCAT management > - Click OK to save.
- (Optional) Add additional profile elements.
Delete library-at-home profile elements
To library-at-home delete profile elements:
- In the Wise configuration manager, go to Catalog > Products > Profiles > Library-at-home - profiles.
- Click Open next to the profile for which you want to remove elements. The Profiles element screen opens.
- Click Detail next to the element you want to delete.
- Select Remove and click OK. A confirmation message appears.
- Click OK. The profile is removed.
Edit library-at-home profile elements
To library-at-home edit profile elements:
- In the Wise configuration manager, go to Catalog > Products > Profiles > Library-at-home - profiles.
- Click Open next to the profile you want to change the elements for. The Profiles element screen opens.
- Click Detail next to the profile you want to edit. The Profiles window opens.
- Select Change and make desired changes.
- Click OK to save the changes.
Chart - profiles
Chart profiles are created for use in your web catalog to display frequently borrowed titles. By default, tops display the top 10 circulating titles meeting the parameters determined in the profile.
Create or edit a chart profile
In the web catalog, chart profiles, or top list profiles display the most popular titles at your library. Lists can be defined for different audiences or types of materials, such as novels, non-fiction, or children's books. Chart profiles are created to determine which types of titles are assigned to a list.
To create or edit a profile:
- In the Wise configuration manager, go to OCLC Wise > Catalog > Products > Chart profiles.
- Click New to create a new profile, or click Detail next to an existing profile to edit properties. The Profiles window opens.
- Enter profile information. Click Change to edit existing information.

Selection period | Period, in months, for which the borrowing statistics are counted. |
- Click OK to save.
Add elements to a chart profile
After a chart profile is created, you must add the desired elements to the profile to indicate which types of titles should appear in the list. To add elements to a chart profile:
- In the Wise configuration manager, go to OCLC Wise > Catalog > Products > Profiles > Chart - profiles.
- Click Open next to the profile to which you want to add elements.
- Click New. The Profile elements window opens.
- Enter profile information:

Manually enter the desired values of the selected category. Click Add after each value is entered to add it to the Values list, or enter multiple values separated by a pipe (|). Note: A series of values can also be entered, for example, if the Category 23 - SCAT is selected, a range of scat values such as 1000-2000 can be entered. |
- Click OK to save.
- Repeat steps 3-5 to add more elements to the top list profile.
Update the list in the Wise system
After a top list profile is defined, the list must be built with the assigned definitions. This step can be completed by activating the job BLDTOP in the Report processor, via the Jobs tab. Depending on the size of your library system, this process may take some time. To check the status of the process, see the Dashboard.
When the list is complete and activated, you must restart the web catalog to view changes.
Add top lists to your locations
Top list information is gathered based on selected locations in your library system, in a top list network. This allows you to segment your branches so that borrowing data is only used from the selected locations. To create a top list network:
- In the Wise configuration manager, go to OCLC Wise > Management organizations > Networks and branch groups > Networks > (G_Net) Networks.
- Click Open next to Top lists.
- Click New.
- Enter the Network code, these can be located in the table (G_VST) Main Branch groups (Vxxx), and a Description of the network.
- Click OK to save.
Top lists networks are assigned at the branch level. To assign a top list to a branch:
- In the Wise configuration manager, go to OCLC Wise > Management organizations > Branches.
- Click Detail next to the branch to which you want to add a top list.
- Select the Networks tab.
- Click Change to edit the information.
- Select a top list from the Top list networks drop-down list.
- Click OK to save.
Delete a Chart profile
To delete a top list profile:
- In the Wise configuration manager, go to Catalog > Products > Profiles > Chart - profiles.
- Click Detail next to the profile you want to remove. The Profiles window opens.
- Select Remove and click OK. A confirmation message appears.
- Click OK. The profile is removed.

- In the Wise configuration manager, go to Catalog > Products > Profiles > Chart - profiles.

(G_APS) New arrivals - main menu
New arrivals profiles can be used in the web catalog to display your library's newly acquired materials. The (G_APS) New arrivals table consists of an overarching Acquisition menu structure table. Within this table, new arrivals can be divided into categories. Each category is assigned one or more acquisition profiles to inform the types of titles to include in the group. For example, a category for Youth fiction could contain the acquisition groups Picture Books, Elementary level books, and Children's books.
Create an Acquisition menu group
To create a new group:
- In the Wise configuration manager, go to OCLC Wise > Catalog > Products > Profiles > (G_APS) New arrivals - main menu.
- Click Open next to Acquisition menu structure.
- Click New. The Acquisition menu groups window opens.
- Enter Acquisition menu group information:
Field Description Type Automatically filled by the system (APS). Classification Automatically filled by the table (STD). Menu group Enter a unique, 2-digit menu group code. This code should follow a logical structure. Numbers 00-99 can be used. Description Enter a description of the menu group. This will display in your web catalog. -
Click OK to save.
Add acquisition profiles to a menu group
After a menu group is created, acquisition profiles must be added to indicate which types of titles should appear in the group.
To add profiles to a group:
- In the Wise configuration manager, go to OCLC Wise > Catalog > Products > Profiles > (G_APS) New arrivals - main menu.
- Click Open next to Acquisition menu structure.
- Click Open next to the Acquisition group to which you want to add profiles.
- Click New. The Acquisition menu codes window opens.
- Enter Acquisition menu codes details:

New arrival profiles are updated during the nightly system process, however the web cache may prevent updates from displaying for over 24 hours.
Delete an acquisition group
To delete an acquisition group:
- In the Wise configuration manager, go to Catalog > Products > Profiles > (G_APS) New arrivals - main menu.
- Click Open next to the Acquisition menu structure line.
- Click Detail next to the group you want to remove. The Acquisition menu groups window opens.
- Select Remove and click OK. A confirmation message appears.
- Click OK. The group is removed.
Edit an acquisition group
To edit an acquisition group:
- In the Wise configuration manager, go to Catalog > Products > Profiles > (G_APS) New arrivals - main menu.
- Click Open next to the Acquisition menu structure line.
- Click Detail next to the group you want to edit. The Profiles window opens.
- Select Change and make desired changes.
- Click OK to save the changes.
Acquisition profiles
Acquisition profiles are used to show newly purchased materials in the web catalog. Acquisition profiles are also leveraged for alerting customers of new items via email.
Acquisition profiles are leveraged in the following areas of the Wise system:
- Networks
An acquisition profile network is established in the table (G_Net) Networks to determine which branches are included in the profile. - Web catalog
In the web catalog, customers can select acquisition profiles, which appear as areas of interest to follow in My Account. When a customer selects a profile, they will receive email messages when titles within the selected profiles are added to the library collection. For more information, see New arrivals. - Staff client
In the staff client, staff can edit customer profile selections in Customer administration, on the Profiles tab. - System job
The nightly JOB BLDAAN ensures that the latest titles are identified and included in new arrivals messages. - Billing
During the Open billing period process, customers with a membership that expired over three months ago will no longer receive new arrivals messages.
Create an acquisition profile
Acquisition profiles can be created based on the areas of interest of library customers. For example, a profile of home and garden titles might include interior design books, gardening books, and cookbooks.
To create or edit an acquisition profile:
- In the Wise configuration manager, go to OCLC Wise > Catalog > Products > Profiles > Acquisition profiles.
- Click New to create a new profile, or click Detail next to an existing profile to change it. The Profiles window opens.
- Enter profile information. Click Change to edit an existing profile.
