SCAT management system tables

Find information about genre codes and system tables related to SCAT conversion within the Wise configuration manager.

SCAT management system tables are located in the Wise configuration manager at OCLC Wise > Titles and SCAT management > SCAT management > System tables. The following tables provide auxiliary information for the SCAT conversion table.

Table name Description Related tables and settings
(TABOND) Subjects
  • Auxiliary table used to generate a different SCAT for each subject for Adults, C, B, and "other youth".
  • Code position 1/7
  • The keyword for the item is compared with the descriptions in this table, for a maximum of five subjects. After the first match, the process stops. A minimum of 12 characters in the term must match.
  • 30-character limit

Note: If there is a ZZZ code in the table, Wise will select the SCAT from that line, if there are subjects in the title, but those subjects do not match any of the lines in this table.

SCAT conversion
(TABONH) Subject headings
  • Auxiliary table used to generate a different subject heading for Youth titles with ages AB, AP, or AK.
  • Code position 1/7
  • 30-character limit
  • The first Subject headings key word in the title is compared with the first 50 descriptions in this table. After the first match, the process stops.
SCAT conversion
(TABSER) Series
  • Auxiliary table used to generate a scat for each series for Adults and/or Youth
  • Minimum 4-characters, maximum 30-characters

Note: A description is required. It must be entered in all caps with no punctuation or symbols.

SCAT conversion
(TABGEN/TABGNI) Genre codes
  • Auxiliary table for the definition of genres, control of icons, and to generate a SCAT for Adults or Youth
  • See Genre codes for more information
TABGNJ
(TABGNJ) Genre indication: = youth statistics
  • Auxiliary table to generate a scat for each genre and for each age category (AP – D ).
  • For the genre codes, see TABGEN
  • Meaning of the code:
    • Positions 1-3 are the genre code, enter other genres as ZZZ
    • Positions 4-6 are the age designation, not required for A, B, and C
  • The SCAT number youth field applies to all other ages. If a SCAT is desired for each other age, lines must be created with positions 1-3 genres and 4-6 age
  • Age D is assigned its own SCAT but does not fit on the standard screen
TABGEN
(TABGBT) Language + genre
  • Auxiliary table used to generate a different SCAT for Adults or Youth, based on language from the title (other than NED) and per genre
  • Enter code as
    • Positions 1-3 are language code
      • Enter other languages as ZZZ
    • Positions 4-6 are genre code
      • Enter other genres as ZZZ

(TABSBL) Sheet music SISO

A scat can be entered for adults, youth, and AJ youth per sheet music SISO with this.
SISO/genre group number field – using the code entered here, you can route through to the next table TABSBG.

TABSBG
(TABSBG) Sheet music SISO + genre category
  • Using a code in the field SISO/genre group from the TABSBL table plus the sheet music letter designations after the SISO, a different scat can be entered for V (adult), J (youth), and AJ

In this way, a certain SISO can be “scatted” more deeply, or multiple SISOs with the same “genre” can be grouped in the same scat.

Note: There is no verification of the accuracy of the entered scats. These must occur in the central scat table with the correct meaning.

TABSBL
(TABSBA) Dewey Decimal Class

Use this table to create a scat for each Dewey Decimal class.

Note: This table is limited to Dewey classifications up to one decimal point. Use the table (DEWEY) if your classification numbers are longer.

(DEWEY) Dewey Decimal Entries Use this table to create a scat for each Dewey Decimal class.
(BISAC) Book Industry Subject and Category Use this table to create a scat for each BISAC category. This classification is based on the title fields TW101 (BISAC) and DY084 (Other classification) and map to the MARC tag 084.
(TABSBH) Sheet music local, Type 2 (TK)

A scat can be entered for youth and adults for each classification code. The classification must be included in search entry TK0 for the link with the title file.
This can only be used in consultation with OCLC.

(TABSMM) Music classification NBD/Biblion

Using this, a scat can be entered for each music classification number (NBD/Biblion, 2 positions, numerical) for youth and adults, and a placement comment code.
The classification must be included in search entry TI4 for the link with the title file.

Note: Music titles are not supplied with youth type classification.

(TABSMR) Music classification CDR

This can be used to enter a scat for youth and adults for each music classification (according to the classification Rotterdam-CDR, 2 or 3 positions, letters). The classification must be included in search entry TI6 for the link with the title file.

Note: Music titles are not supplied with youth type classification.

(TABSMX) Music classification IM + IR Auxiliary table to determine statistical number V or J on the basis of the music classification number (TI4) + the first 2 positions of the CDR code (TI6).
(TABSNM) SISO-table A scat for adults, youth, and either AJ youth or a placement comment code can be entered for each SISO number.
(TABSNL) SISO 99* + country Auxiliary table to generate a separate scat number for each country from the SISO for V, J, and AJ for the 99* SISO numbers.
(TABSNT) SISO + language title Auxiliary table to generate a different scat for Adults, Youth, and AJ per language code in the title (other than NED) and per SISO number.
(TABSDL) DEWEY + language title

Table to generate a different scat per language code in the title/of the title (not language cataloging body) per Dewey number (or group of Dewey numbers) for Adults and Youth.

This can be used for collections in a foreign script, such as Arabic, Hebrew, Chinese, or Japanese collections, or for collections in specific languages such as Turkish or Esperanto.

Enter the code as:

  • Positions 1-3: Title language code (For example, ARA)
  • Positions 4-7: Dewey/group (Decimal point)

For example, a code for Dewey numbers starting with 233.4 would be ARA2334.

(TABLSN) Lexile measure
  • Auxiliary table for the definition of reading levels and to generate a different scat for Adults or Youth per reading level
  • By default, in the titles, an MLP code is picked up from KMC B214 or from the text of the library recommendation
  • Input otherwise unrestricted
  • Some organizations use half values (e.g. for sheet music)

(CLS92) Easy Search Preschoolers Not for use in US libraries.
(CLS93) Easy Search Juveniles Not for use in US libraries.
(CLS94) Easy Search Adults Not for use in US libraries.
(TABSCM) Search SCAT / MDS Because it has already been noticed that the scats will not be sufficient given the growth in the number of medium types, it is possible in various places in Wise to work with a combination of “scat + RMT.” This makes this trick with this “route through table” unnecessary, provided you have created at least one RMT for each medium type.
(TABSND) Search SCAT / LT-SISO A scat that has been generated via the “SISO” table can be split up further with the help of this table based on the found country/language designations.
(TABX50) StatCon classification This table can only be edited by OCLC. Defines the categories within the SCAT conversion table.

Genre codes

Genre codes require the following information:

Field name Description
Type GEN, for genre is automatically added
Code 2-3 position code.
Genre Unrestricted field, a SCAT for no genre cannot be generated by adding a line to this table with the description no genre. Wise only looks at this table if the title does have a genre code.
SCAT adults

Adult SCAT

SCAT youth If a code is provided here, the TABGNJ table will not be searched.
Icon

Icon number, according to a printing program for media label.

Icon description Stored in TABGNI, this description is displayed on the screen for label methods as part of the placement data.
