SCAT processing sequence

Learn about the sequence in which SCAT codes are processed and determined.

How is a SCAT code determined?

The SCAT conversion table is the primary table used for determining SCAT codes for titles. The SCAT conversion table is composed of the auxiliary tables located in Titles and SCAT management > SCAT management. In order to make changes to the SCAT conversion, it is best to update the auxiliary tables:

It is important to understand the processing sequence that Wise uses to generate SCAT when you need to update these tables. When a new title is added to your catalog, Wise performs the following evaluation to determine the appropriate SCAT:

Step 1

Does the material type for this title exist in the (TABMDC) Media type conversion table?

  • If yes, proceed to Step 2, with the medium type process as
  • If no, proceed to Step 2, with the medium type of the title

Step 2

(The SCATCON table)

Does the type classification + medium type exist in the SCATCON table?

Note: If a title has a type classification of both non-fiction and fiction, it will be processed as non-fiction.

Step 3

Is the item classified as "no classification" + medium type?

Step 4

Is the item classified as classification + medium type ZZZ?

  • If yes, proceed to Step 5
  • If no, the item will be classified as 9999 and is complete

Step 5

If the classification appears in the SCAT conversion table, the rest of the process takes place in Step 5. Wise will review the title information and search for the first (or next) line that meets one of the following conditions for the language, ZIP code, age, and avi.

  • Category is blank in both the title and the SCAT conversion table
  • Category is the same in the title and in the SCAT conversion table
  • Category is provided for the title but is not in the SCAT conversion table, but the value ZZZ has been provide and no search entry has been filled in

Then:

  • If yes, but no search entry has been provided, proceed to Step 10
  • If yes, and there is a search entry provided, proceed to Step 6
  • If no, the item will be classified as 9999 and is complete.

Step 6

If a line with a search entry is found and:

  • The search value of to is filled, proceed to Step 7
  • The search value of to is blank, proceed to Step 8

Step 7

Compare the title value with the SCAT conversion value.

  • If the value is found, the item will be classified as SCAT known, proceed to Step 10
  • If the value is not found, return to Step 5 with the next line

Step 8

If the search value of to is blank, search entry value of the title is searched in the underlying inspection table. TABSNL takes precedence over TABSNM. TABSBL can be routed through to TABSBG.

  • If the value is found, the item will be classified as SCAT known, proceed to Step 10
  • If the value is not found, one of the following actions will occur:
    • A SCAT is in the line of the SCAT conversion table, the item will be classified as SCAT known, proceed to Step 10
    • A SCAT is not in the line of the SCAT conversion table, return to Step 5 with the next line

Step 9

If a value is still not found, the item will be classified as 9999 and is complete.

Step 10

A value has been determined for the title (with the exception of 9999).

  • If an entry with the determined SCAT exists in the TABSND table, Wise will check whether the country/language information in the SISO occurs as a description in the title and in that table, and in that case will use the intended SCAT
  • Whether or not the SCAT is found, proceed to Step 11

Step 11

A value has been determined for the title (with the exception of 9999).

  • If configured in the TABMDC table that searching must be continued, Wise will search the determined SCAT in the TABSCM table and continue search for SCAT/MDS. If a value is found in that table, it will be used
