Carousel rules

Carousel rules define what type of title set appears in the carousel. Carousel rules are defined in the Wise configuration manager.

The rule level for a carousel list determines which type of set of titles is selected. A separate menu option is available for each type of list. Parameters are defined depending on the type of list created.

To create or edit a carousel rule:

  1. In the Wise configuration manager, go to OCLC Wise > Carousel > Carousel rules.
  2. Select the type of rule set you wish to create from the menu:
    1. New arrivals set
    2. Community ID
    3. DGC browsing set   Note: Not for use in US libraries.
    4. Shelf
    5. Title set (via clipboard)
    6. Title set (via selections)
    7. Just returned
    8. Top list
  3. Click New to create a rule, or click Detail next to an existing rule to edit. The Info column rules window opens. Depending on the rule type selected in step 2, different information is required.
  4. Enter rule information. Click Change to edit an existing rule.
Each rule set requires the following information:
    Filed Description
Type Automatically filled by the system with the rule set selected.
Description Text description of the rule set. This description will not appear in the carousel unless it is set at the shelf level that the title of the first line is displayed instead of the shelf title.
Max. number Enter a number for the maximum number of titles to include in the set. By default, 1000 titles are included. If a lower number is entered, for example, for acquisitions, the most recent titles will be included in the set.
    Default handle

This number determines how many titles from the maximum number appear on the screen. The titles selected from the set are random.

Maximum number determines how large the list is from which the system can select titles to display, the handle determines how many titles actually appear. If the same number is entered for both Max. number and Default handle, you can control exactly which titles appear in the carousel.

By default, 10 titles are included in the default handle.

Available Check this box to display only materials that are available in the carousel.
  5. Enter additional information, based on the rule type selected. See additional details below.
  6. Click OK to save.
