Conditional request

Learn how to create a conditional ILL request in the Wise staff client.

A new request does not need to be finalized when entered. If a question mark is entered in the Request ID field, the request can be changed. Use Conditional request to retrieve a conditional request created via New request and add processing details.

Create a conditional request

  1. Follow the steps described to Create a New request.
  2. In the Request ID field, enter a question mark (?).
  3. Click Save to save and close the request window, or click Next to create another new request.

Find and update conditional requests

  1. To search conditional requests, go to Items > Requests Items > Conditional request. The Search items screen appears.
  2. Click OK to retrieve all conditional requests, or enter a title, author or supplying system to narrow the search results.
  3. Enter additional information. A request is finalized when the Request ID is updated with a valid request number. Only at this point will any related charges apply.
  4. Click Save.

Submit a request with unknown costs

If you do not know which lender will supply the item, you may not know what the service will cost. In this case, the request can remain conditional.

To create the request:

  1. Follow the steps described to Create a New request.
  2. Enter a question mark (?) in the Request ID  field.
  3. Select ZZZ for Supplying system. This enables the request to be sorted under Show hold requests. If this ZZZ is not available to select, contact your system administrator.
  4. (Optional). Include the Request ID in the Note field.

Once the requested item is delivered, update the conditional request to reflect the costs. Then, you can process the link request as normal.
