Reading Group configuration

Learn how to configure the Reading Group functionality for the Wise Client.

 

Reading Groups must be enabled in the Wise Client in order to work with Book club requests in the Client. The following settings must be configured in the Wise Manager:

System options

Enable the READGRP system option. Enabling the system option allows for the configuration of Reading Groups in the Manager and allows Reading Group menu options to show in the Client.

 Note: Changes to system options usually take 24 hours to take effect. 
 

To enable the system option:

  1.  Navigate to systemWise > systemWise > System options.
  2. Click Detail next to the READGRP option. A System options window opens.
  3. To enable Reading Groups at the system level, select Change and then select Yes to enable the system option. Individual branches can be excluded by setting the system option to No for that branch. 
    1. To exclude a branch using this method, click New at the top of the System options page in the Manager. The System options window opens.
    2. Select READGRP from the Options drop-down menu.
    3. Select the branch to exclude from the Branch drop-down menu.
    4. Set On to No
    5.  Click OK to save changes.
  4.  To enable Reading Groups at the branch level instead, leave the system option unset, or set to No at the system level, and set individual branches to Yes.
    1. To set the option at the branch level, click New at the top of the System options page in the Manager. The System options window opens.
    2. Select READGRP from the Options drop-down menu.
    3. Select the branch to exclude from the Branch drop-down menu.
    4. Set On to Yes
    5.  Click OK to save changes.

Roles

Staff who manage reading groups will need to be assigned the READING_GROUPS role at access level 15-0-0 or 15-15-0.

To assign the role:

  1. Navigate to systemWise > Access codes and authorizations > Access authorizations in the Manager.
  2. Select the Roles tab. A User Roles box opens.
  3. Select the role you want to add the permission to from the drop-down list or use the Filter field to enter characters to filter.
  4. Click Display functions to show the functions for the selected role. The functions of the selected role appear in a table below the User Roles box.
  5. Check the box for Managing book clubs and requests for book clubs.
  6. Click in any of the three access columns to set the access levels. Access must be set at  15-0-0 or 15-15-0.
  7. Users with the selected role will now be able to work with book club requests and Reading Groups in the Client. 

Branch groups

A branch group for code RDG must be configured in the (G_VST) Branch groups per branch table.


To configure the branch group:

  1. Navigate to OCLC Wise > Management organizations > Networks and branch groups > Branch groups > (GVST) Branch groups per branch
  2. Click New. The Branch classifications window opens.
  3. Select the RDG - Book club network group code from the Branch group drop-down menu.
  4. Click OK to save. 

Membership

A Membership definition must be created for Reading Groups in order to assign the customer type Book club leader during account creation. 

To add the membership definition:

  1. Navigate to Products and services > Memberships > Membership settings > Membership definitions in the Manager.
  2. Click Open next to your Library Organization.
  3. Click New at the top of the screen.
  4. Provide information for the membership definition fields.
  5. Click Ok to save the definition.

Once the Membership definition has been added, a Membership service must also be linked to the new Membership definition. 


To link the Membership service:

  1. Navigate to Products and services > Memberships > Membership settings > Membership services in the Manager. 
  2. Click Open next to your Library Organization.
  3. Click New at the top of the screen.
  4. Provide information for the membership services fields.
    • When completing the Membership field you will need to select the Reading Group Membership definition you created from the drop-down menu.
    • When completing the Product field you will need to select BC - Book Club from the drop-down menu. 
  5. Click Ok to save the definition.
     

A Membership rate must also be created for Reading Groups in order to create new accounts with the customer type Reading Group Leader. 

To create the Membership rate:

  1. Navigate to Products and services > Memberships > Membership settings > Membership rates in the Manager.
  2. Click Open next to your Library Organization.
  3. Click New at the top of the screen.
  4. Provide information for the membership rates fields.
    • You will need to select the book club membership you created above when completing the Membership field. 
  5. Click Ok to save the definition.
