Cancel check in

A loan can be canceled during a check-in session using Cancel check in and rescanning the item that you want to cancel. The item will return to it's previous checked-out status.

A returned hold item can also be canceled. This might happen when the return date has not passed yet and the customer would like to keep the material for a longer period. In this case, the item is scanned again under Cancel check in. If the item is on hold for another customer, a notification message will prompt staff to restore the return so that a notification of availability is not sent to the customer who has the item on hold. The status of the hold remains unchanged.

Outdoor book return mode

This mode is used to process items returned via the book drop. This return process differs from the standard check-in process in the following ways:

  • Items are returned one after the other without opening to the borrower screen.
  • There will be no financial settlement upon return. The fees and fines are automatically assigned to the customer who returned the item.
  • Only notifications about where to place the returned item are displayed.

See Check in items using Outdoor book return mode for more information.

Administrative check-in

This mode is used to return items at no cost. All items returned while the system is set to this mode will have no financial settlement. To use Administrative check-in, the system option AIN-BNG must be enabled.

Note: This mode should be deactivated after you have returned all necessary items.

In-House check in

In-House check in mode is used to count items that are used within the library, but not checked out. An example of this scenario may be when a customer uses a reference-only item and then leaves it on a book cart. This mode allows you to count statistics on items used within the library.

See In-house use statistics for more information.

Check in shelf-list items

Reserved items that are returned on the shelf list have to be removed from the shelf and returned in order to link the copy to the hold. The return can be done in the usual way. Any fines for the last customer will display in the bottom section of the Check in screen. Returning items via Check in > Check in shelf-list items prevents the Check out screen from displaying and speeds up the check-in process.

Check in floating items

Check-in floating items allows floating items to be easily returned to the owning branch. If this mode is enabled, the returned items will be sent to the owning branch and sent off for transport with a transport note.
