Introduction to Wise structure

Find a high-level overview of the structure of a Wise system.

System

The library system contains all Financial organizations, Library organizations, and branches. One instance of Wise is a system.

Financial organization

In Wise financial records are registered and managed per financial organization. Each financial organization consists of one or more library organization(s). A Wise system can have multiple financial organizations.

Examples of financial records:

  • Overdue fines
  • Replacement costs
  • Hold costs
  • Subscription fees
  • Store sales
  • Deposits

Customers who are part of a financial organization have a similar experience financially within branches across the same financial organization. Outstanding fines, fees, and replacement costs can be paid at all branches across a single financial organization.

Financial organizations are defined within the Wise configuration manager at OCLC Wise > Management organizations > Financial organizations.

Library organization

A library organization controls the activities and duties in the branches. Policies, accounting functions, and statistical categories apply to each of the branches within the library organization. Library organizations exist within a financial organization.

Branches within the same library organization cooperate with one another. For example, a customer who registered at a branch within a library organization can also pay fines at other branches within the same library organization.

Library organizations are defined within the Wise configuration manager at OCLC Wise > Management organizations > Library organizations.

Network

Networks are groups of branches that are defined for various purposes such as hold requests and acquisitions profiles. For example, a hold network can be set up for branches that are able to place and deliver holds between each other.

Networks are defined in the Wise configuration manager at OCLC Wise > Management organizations > Networks and branch groups > Networks.

Branch group

Branch groups can be created within a network to assign specific functions between branches. Certain branches can be grouped together based on similar policies or procedures.

Branch groups are defined in the Wise configuration manager at OCLC Wise > Management organizations > Networks and branch groups > Branch groups

Branch

A branch is the smallest organizational unit within Wise. A branch always exists as part of a library organization. Branches can be physical locations or administrative units such as an Acquisitions branch.

Branches are defined in the Wise configuration manager at OCLC Wise > Management organizations > Branches.
