Why are some items missing from the public catalog?

Symptom

  • A title that should surface in your front customer-facing catalog isn't appearing in a search.
  • You see an error when opening an OPAC title record from the Client: "Something went wrong, but we don't know what."

Applies to

  • Wise OPAC
  • Wise Staff Client

Resolution

You can use the Wise Manager to determine if the item should be surfacing for customers or not.

  1. Open your Wise Manager
  2. Go to System Wise >> Reports >> Reports Processor >> Queries
  3. Use this query to look up the title in question: select * from titels where titelnr = '[TITLE ID NUMBER]' limit 999
  4. Replace the [TITLE ID NUMBER] section with the number and Test the query
  5. A column labeled "titbits" will appear
  6. Titles are in the front catalog for staff if titbits (Title Bits) are >= 32 and <= 63. Titles are in the front catalog for public if titbits are >= 48 and <= 63. If the titbits are less than 32, the title is in the back catalog.

If you notice that the numbers are not aligning with the above expectations, please contact OCLC Support with the title ID number.
