Primary and conditional cards
A customer can only have one primary card at a time but can have multiple conditional cards. The library decides whether a customer can be given one or more conditional cards in addition to their primary card. Having a conditional card does not enable the customer to borrow additional materials. The system considers the customer and not the card to determine borrowing rights.
The number of the primary card is displayed on customer overviews and printed messages. It also appears at the top of the customer bar. A "no card number" message is displayed when a customer does not have a card or if the card is invalid.
When the barcode of a conditional card is scanned, the account of the customer who is associated with the card is accessed. The person associated with the account is responsible for the card and its use. Items checked out with a conditional card are registered under the number of the primary card, as are the fees and fines connected with the use of the conditional card.
Note: A conditional card should not be confused with a linked membership. This is an extra membership and not an extra card, as is the case with a conditional card.
Share cards
Share cards are a type of conditional card. Share cards are used to allow customers to share their account with a friend or family member. Share cards can be added to a customer account, or primary cards can be changed to a share card. Share cards have the card status of Active.
