Cards

Information about library cards can be found in the Cards section of the Customer data tab within the Wise console.

Information about library cards associated with the customer can be viewed within the Cards section of the Customer Data tab.

Cards fields

The following information about cards is displayed:

Field Description
Type Primary or Conditional card. See Primary and conditional cards for more information about card types.
Status

Cards have one of the following statuses:

Status Description
Active
  • All services related to the card type are available to the customer
  • The card can be blocked
Blocked
  • The card can be reactivated by unblocking it
  • No transactions are available at self-service
  • The account can be accessed via the Wise console or Client, but a notification that the card is blocked will display
  • The customer cannot access their account via the web catalog using their library card number
  • The customer can access their account via the web catalog using their username to request holds
Replaced
  • A replaced card is permanently invalid
  • The card has been replaced but remains visible in the customer's history
  • The customer cannot access their account via the web catalog using a replaced card number
  • The customer can access their account via the web catalog using their username since a new card is available
Card number The library card number.
Last used The date that the card was last used to log in using the card number.
Institution The institution associated with the library card. 

Card actions

Actions can be taken on library cards by selecting them from the list. To select an individual card, click the box to the left of the card type field. To select all cards, click Select all.

After clicking one or more boxes, the More Actions option appears on the right side of the screen. The following actions can be taken: 

Action Description
Block

When a library card is reported lost or missing, it can be blocked. As long as the card is blocked and no new card has been issued, the customer cannot borrow or log in to the web catalog.

 Note: If the card has been reported missing by the customer from within My Account, the card must be unblocked using the Card reported missing by customer option within the Preferences, or in the Properties tab in Customer administration within the Wise client. 

Replace

Replace cards are a conditional card type used to indicate that a library card has been replaced. Replace cards are distinguished by the card status Replaced.

 Note: When a primary card is marked as replaced, the card type changes to conditional.

Change to primary card Changes a conditional card to the primary card. This option only appears when a conditional card is selected.
Change to shared card

Changes a primary card to a shared card. This option only appears when a primary card is selected.

 Note: A primary card cannot be changed to a share card if there is only one card on the account. 

Unblock Unblocks the card. This option only appears when making changes to a blocked card.

Add a card

Library cards can be added using the + Add button. To add a library card:

  1. From Customer data > Cards, click + Add. The Add card prompt appears.
  2. Scan or type in the library card number. If no card number is available, click the Auto-generate card number box. 
  3. Click Save. The new card is added to the list of library cards as a conditional card.

     Note: To change the card type, see Card actions.
