Periodical titles

Learn about how periodicals are distinguished in the Wise staff client.

Periodical titles are assigned a specific media and title type to distinguish them from other titles. This designation allows library staff to create and schedule subscriptions associated with the title. The title record for a periodical must have the following designations:

  • Media type: EMG - Periodical
  • Title type:
    Type Use if...
J - Yearly - SC Title is published annually with serials control
T - Periodical - SC Title is published multiple times per year with serials control, this is recommended for standard, regularly published periodicals. At the end of each year, a new journal title will be generated by the system to link issues for that year.
P - Periodical Magazines or books that do not need serials control.
  • Allow holds: No
  • Linking: No

When a periodical title is created, it appears in the catalog with the designation [Periodical] following the title and with the periodical icon.

Titles saved with these characteristics can be updated and managed via the Periodicals button that appears in the Catalog.
