Collection definitions

Learn about the changing collection options available in the Wise staff client.

Changing collections for branches, schools, and even other library systems can be compiled, managed, scheduled for delivery, and loaned in Wise.

In order to use collections, branches need to be included in the (VSM) Chance copy location for Branch group type. For more information, see (TABVSG) Branch group types.

Collection descriptions

Collection type Description
V - Fixed collections Traditional changing collection; the items are included in the collection for a long period of time (multiple loans).
P - Project  collections Project collections are "permanently" grouped and can be scheduled. These collections are recommended for use with schools.
L - Non-recurring collections Items are permanently grouped like in project collections, but can also be included for one loan. When the items are checked in, they are automatically unlinked.
T - Title collections No items are linked to a title collection, this collection type is used for planning. You can indicate how many items belong to a title collection.
R - Route collections These are permanent collections, the items follow a determined route between branches on the basis of transfer date.
O - Rotating collections These are permanent collections, all of the items follow a determined route between branches on the basis of the same date.
X - Skip route A subtype of routing and rotating collections. Items within these collections will not be moved. Rotation has stopped.

Target group

In addition to collection types, collections have a defined target group type for reference. The target group type shows which educational target groups or purposes the collection should be used.

Example target group types:

  • BST - BookStart
  • BPP - Books for toddlers
  • LBO - Reading advancement
  • NVL - Level reading
  • VOL - Adults
  • JON - Youth
  • RGL - Large-print novels

Topic code

A collection is part of a certain collection with a unique code. The code consists of:

  • Topic (3 letters or numbers)
  • Serial number (001 to 9999)

Topic codes are defined system-wise in Wise configuration manager, TABWON table. For more information, see Rotating/changing collections. If the Topic is left blank, Wise provides the serial number. These numbers are based on the highest existing number
