Customer type definition

The information required for new accounts by customer type is defined in the Customer type table.

Customer types are configured in the Customer type definition table. The Customer type definition table allows you to configure which information is required and which is optional when creating a new account on the New customer screen in the staff client. You can configure settings by institution for each customer type.

 Note: Fields that are configured as required will appear in red on the New customer screen in the staff client and must be populated in order for the customer account to be created.

After configuring a customer type definition, the client must be restarted so that the required fields can be retrieved.

Different information can be required for customers when they create a new account online. To configure those fields, see Membership customer fields.

Configure a customer type definition

  1. In the Wise configuration manager, go to Wise > Customers > Customer type definition.
  2. Click Open next to your library system. If any customer types have already been configured, they will display on the screen.
    • To create a new Customer type definition, click New. The Customer type definition window opens.
    • To edit an existing Customer type definition, click detail next to that type. The Customer type definition window opens. Click Change to make changes.
  3. Provide Customer type definition information:
    Field Description
    Organization Automatically populated by the system.
    Customer types If you selected New, select a customer type from the drop-down list.

    If you selected detail, this field is not editable. For more information, see Customer types.

       Note: Newsletter type customers can be registered via the staff client and require only name and address information. Other required fields will not apply to this customer type, even if they are configured here.
    Enrollment source Select one of the following from the drop-down list.
    • 0 - Wise Client
       Note: The Wise Console will follow the same configuration settings as 0 - Wise Client.
    • 1 - Internet (Wise Portal)
    Create/Edit Patron Mode Select one of the following from the drop-down list.
    • 0 - Create
    • 1 - Edit

    Customer type requirements

    Select one of the following from the drop-down list for each requirement field.
    • 0 - Do not display
    • 1 - Required
    • 2 - Optional
  4. Click OK to save the definition.

Wise Client customer type configuration best practices

Some customer type requirement fields require a specific configuration when you create a new customer type definition in the Wise Client.

Field Description
All customer type requirement fields The 0 - Do not display option has no influence. It is not possible to hide fields in the Client registration form.
Entry of name Always select 1 - Required for this field.

If this field is set to 2 - Optional, it does not appear in red on the New customer screen in the staff client, but the Last/Surname/Family field is still required to create a new account.
Entry of date of birth Always select 1 - Required for this field as the date of birth determines the customer's plan.
Enter gender/Salutation This field affects the Individual/Institution field when creating a new account.
  • Select 1 - Required to provide the following choices: Male, Female, or Institution
  • Select 2 - Optional to provide the following choices: Male, Female, Institution, or N/A
Entry of identification This field is 1 - Required by default when registering a Warehouse Customer.

Accept general terms and conditions

This option is not relevant when registering via the Wise Client. This field is not visible.

Wise Console customer type configuration best practices

Some customer type requirement fields require a specific configuration when you create a new customer type definition in the Wise Console.

 Note: While it is possible to hide fields from the New customer screen in the Console by selecting the 0 - Do not display option, it is not recommended for all fields.

Field Description
Entry of name Always select 1 - Required for this field.

If this field is set to 2 - Optional, it does not appear in red on the New customer screen in the Console, but the Last/Surname/Family field is still required to create a new account.
Entry of address Always select 1 - Required for this field. This information from these fields is needed to generate the list of subscriptions and branches.
Entry of (residential) location The City field is automatically mandatory on the New customer screen in the console when the Entry of address field is set to 1 - Required.
Entry of date of birth Always select 1 - Required for this field. This information is needed to generate the list of subscriptions.
Entry of phone number This field can be set to 0 - Do not display1 - Required, or 2 - Optional.

If you select 0 - Do not display, you must also select 0 - Do not display for the Entry of mobile number field.
Entry of mobile number This field can be set to 0 - Do not display1 - Required, or 2 - Optional.

If you select 0 - Do not display, you must also select 0 - Do not display for the Entry of phone number field.
Entry of email address Always select 1 - Required for this field. A customer cannot register online without an email address.
Entry of selection code This field is not relevant when registering online as it is never visible in the Wise Console.
Entry of identification This field is not relevant when registering online as it is never visible in the Wise Console.
Accept general terms and conditions This field can be set to 1 - Required or 2 - Optional. It cannot be hidden because it is required for the registration process.

System options

The following system options can affect the registration form. If these system options are enabled, they override the selections made in the Customer type definition table. System options, unlike customer type definitions, apply to all customer types as well as to both the Client and Console.

  • LRBEMLV: This system option makes entering an email address mandatory. In the Client there is an Empty button to bypass the obligation (e.g., a customer does not have an email address). This button is not available if email address is required from the customer type definition.
  • LRBSEXE: This system option makes gender selection mandatory.
  • LRBTELV: This system option requires entering a telephone number. It is still possible to continue without a telephone number, but a confirmation pop-up will appear in the Client.
     Note: This does not apply to the mobile number field.

Different customer types

The registration forms can be configured per customer type. The most relevant customer type is the Regular customer. For customer types where fields are already omitted by default (e.g., when registering an anonymous customer and newsletter customer), it is not possible to add extra fields or make them mandatory/non-mandatory via the customer type definition.

Registration form register online

When creating a customer type definition for the Wise Console, it is possible to hide fields via the option 'Do not show'. However, it is not useful for every field to hide it. See below for explanation per field:

Field Description

Name entry

Always make this option Mandatory so that the customer's details are known. This refers to the 'Last name' field; initial(s) and prefix(es) are optional and cannot be made mandatory.

Entry of address

Always make this option Mandatory. The information from these fields is needed to generate the list of subscriptions and branches.

Entry of (residence) place

The field 'City' in the form is automatically mandatory if 'Entry of address' is set to Mandatory.

Enter date of birth

Always make this option Mandatory. The information is needed to generate the list of subscriptions.

Enter gender / salutation

This option can be set to Mandatory, Optional, or Do not show.

Entry of telephone number

This option can be set to Mandatory, Optional or Do not show. If the field must be hidden, then the option 'Input 06 number' must also be set to Do not show.

Input of 06 number

This option can be set to Mandatory, Optional or Do not show. If the field should be hidden, then the option 'Enter telephone number' must also be set to Do not show.

Entry of e-mail address

Always make this option Mandatory. Without an email address, a customer cannot register online.

Entry of selection code

This option is not relevant when registering online. This field is never visible in the Wise Portal.

Entry of identification

This option is not relevant when registering online. This field is never visible in the Wise Portal.

Input of IBAN

This option can be set to Mandatory, Optional or Do not show.

Accept terms and conditions

Make this option Required or Optional. The field cannot be hidden, because then the registration process cannot be completed.
