Send messages
The staff client performs a process called the MRKTNG job to send marketing messages. Contact OCLC Support for assistance.
View message batches
Message batches can be viewed in the Wise configuration manager dashboard. There are two deviations:
- Normally, messages can be found in the home/bxmas/messages/locations folder. Folders have also been created at the authority level (messages sent by the system), where those messages can be found.
- The style of the message is always determined by the style specified in the Wise configuration manager in the rules in Marketing distribution settings. This does not apply to marketing action messages. In the staff client, you can select a style sheet that overrides the settings at the control line.
In the unlikely event that no marketing action message sheet is present in the home/bxmas/messages folder, the Marketing distribution settings apply as the default.
Marketing branch
Messages display as being sent from a selected marketing location. The marketing location is configured per library organization, in the Wise configuration manager.
To configure the Marketing branch:
- In the Wise configuration manager, go to Management organizations > Library Organizations.
- Select a Marketing branch from the drop-down list for that field. All marketing messages for the library organization will be addressed from the selected branch.
Marketing branch address details
The information of the selected Marketing branch is what will display when sending messages. The address details for the Marketing branch are configured in the Wise configuration manager. To configure the address details of your selected marketing branch, see Address details tab.
Marketing branch default information
If the marketing branch is not provided for the sending location/authority, the system will default to the branch assigned code 0000. This information can be found in the Wise configuration manager in SystemWise > SystemWise > System settings.
Note: If no marketing location is entered in the instance table and no name and address details are filled in in the system location, no messages will be sent.
Create message rules
Marketing messages have the type "M":
- Type: BRCHT_MRKT
- Code: M
- Class: Marketing
Examples:
Message Class: | Message Function: | Description |
---|---|---|
M | AA | General action |
M | AP | Test action |
M | EP | Email preview |
One message line refers to a table with a set of customers to whom the marketing message applies. For example:
set_id | actor_id | message status | date | filename | etc
For a message type MAA, set_id: actor_id count as 1:1.
For a message type MAP, set_id: actor_id count as 1:n.
The message line is created with the following fields:
Field | Description |
---|---|
type | Message class + message function (e.g., MAA) |
institution | Institution for sender data |
actor_id | set_id |
status | 0 - not processed |
form | M (email) |
group | 1 |
selection date | Date that the line was created |
time_off | Time after which the marketing message may be sent |
style | Style sheet applied |
Message rule configuration
Sending rules must be created in order for marketing messages to be sent (this also applies to notifications and newsletters). Rules are established in the Wise configuration manager.
To create sending rules:
- In the Wise configuration manager, go to SystemWise > Messages > Messages and click on the System Table tab. There are three message types:
- MAA
- MAP
- MEP
- Click on one of the messages in the list.
- Click New to create a new rule.
- Provide rule information in the blue box at the top of the page. For message type settings, see Configuration by message type.
- Click OK to save the rule.

Configure send day, time, and salutation
Settings can be configured uniquely for each marketing message. These settings are used for setting up messages and control the days and times that messages are sent and which header, footing, and salutation is used.
See Notification settings for configuration information.
Unsubscribe from message, campaigns, and direct mail
Customers are offered the opportunity to opt out of different types of messages, notifications and campaigns. They can also opt back in at a later time. These settings are configured by the customer in My Account, and can also be set via the customer administration screen.
