Pause or resume a hold
As of version 8.0.0, it is possible to pause holds in the new OPAC and the Wise Client. By pausing their hold , customers can ensure they do not lose their place in line if a reserved copy becomes available before they can get to the library to pick it up.
As long as a hold is paused, the queue counts, but the hold is not honored until the customer resumes the hold. If the paused hold is at the top of the queue, it retains that position, but other holds are still honored.
For example, if a customer places a hold but knows they will soon be on vacation for a week the customer can pause the reservation for that vacation week. If the customer moves to the first position in the queue, and the copy becomes available during the vacation, the customer does not lose that spot in the queue. When the hold resumes after the vacation, the customer is next in line for a copy.
System options
There are two system options that relate to pausing and resuming holds:
- When the PAUSHLD system option is enabled, customers can pause a hold from My holds.
- When the OPACPNH system option is enabled, customers can also pause a hold directly when placing the hold in the OPAC. This option is intended to supplement to the PAUSHLD system option; you cannot use OPACPNH 'loosely'.
Changes to PAUSHLD and OPACPNH require an overnight process to go into effect.
Note: Currently, the PAUSHLD system option does not work in conjunction with the start/stop date option as the start/stop date is overridden by the PAUSHLD system option.
Pause a hold
A hold can be paused directly when placing the hold in the catalog or from My holds, but only holds with the status "In Process" can be paused.

- Enter the desired start and stop dates for when the reservation should be paused.
- Click on Save.
After using either workflow the start and stop dates will now be visible in My holds.
Resume a hold
A hold automatically resumes on the date the customer set when pausing. It is also possible to resume a hold earlier. There are two workfows for this:
